Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructures (Meil) has won a USD 225.5 million (KWD 69.23 million) contract from Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to develop a state-of-the-art gas sweetening and sulphur recovery facility in West Kuwait.
The project, structured on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model with a potential buyback option for KOC, will be executed in two phases: construction and operation and maintenance. Located near Booster Station BS-171, the facility is scheduled for completion in 790 days, followed by five years of operations.
The new plant will feature a Sulphur Recovery Unit (SRU) with two trains, each capable of processing 100 tons per day, achieving nearly 300 per cent sulphur recovery efficiency. It is designed to treat sour gas containing up to 4 per cent hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and 10 per cent carbon dioxide (CO₂), processing 120 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
“Partnering with Kuwait Oil Company for this strategic gas sweetening facility underscores MEIL’s focus on world-class energy infrastructure that prioritises environmental safety and operational efficiency,” said P. Doraiah, Director, MEIL.
The purified gas will be dehydrated and sent through KOC’s pipeline network to the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plant at Mina Ahmadi Refinery for further processing. The project aligns with Kuwait’s emphasis on cleaner fuel production and sustainable energy initiatives.
Meil, which has executed similar projects in Rajasthan and Mongolia, is known for its expertise in complex hydrocarbon infrastructure. The group has also delivered international projects across Mongolia, Tanzania, Italy, and other countries in sectors including hydrocarbons, water, and power. |
