SpiceJet Strengthens India-Iraq Air Link With Direct Flights To Najaf

SpiceJet has started the special, non-stop flights from Mumbai and Ahmedabad to Najaf, Iraq, one of the most sacred cities for Muslims worldwide. Services from Mumbai will start on 18 October, followed by flights from Ahmedabad on 19 October.
With this move, SpiceJet becomes the only Indian airline to operate direct flights to Najaf, offering pilgrims a faster and more convenient travel option that bypasses long journeys and multiple stopovers.
Najaf is a significant pilgrimage site, housing the revered shrine of Imam Ali, the Kufa Mosque, the Great Najaf Seminary, and Wadi-us-Salaam, the world’s largest cemetery. Its proximity to Karbala and Kufa makes it a key destination for Indian pilgrims seeking spiritual enrichment.
Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer, SpiceJet, said, “For millions of devout Indians, Najaf is a pilgrimage of a lifetime. SpiceJet is proud to be the only Indian airline to offer direct connectivity to this revered city. By providing these non-stop flights, we are not just offering a service; we are honouring a sacred journey and making it accessible with unmatched ease and comfort.”
While the flights are initially being launched as special services, SpiceJet is exploring the possibility of making Najaf a regular scheduled destination, subject to regulatory approvals.
The announcement aligns with SpiceJet’s broader expansion strategy. The airline aims to more than double its operational fleet and triple its available seat kilometre (ASKM) by December 2025 through the induction of new aircraft, the addition of routes, and higher flight frequencies.
