In ancient India, the kingdom of King Bhagirath was known for its lush landscapes and abundant resources. One day, a great calamity struck, and the sacred river Ganga, in her sorrow, refused to flow from heaven to the earth. The king, desperate to relieve the suffering of his people and restore the purity of the river, embarked on a quest to bring Ganga to the earth.
Bhagirath sought the help of the gods, who granted him a boon. However, to achieve this, he had to perform severe penance for a thousand years. During this time, Ganga remained in heaven, her waters trapped.
King Bhagirath, undeterred by the hardship, began his penance. As he meditated with intense devotion, the gods were moved by his sincerity. Finally, Lord Brahma appeared before him and blessed him, allowing Ganga to descend to the earth.
The river Ganga flowed down from the heavens, touching the earth at Bhagirath\“s feet. The king\“s penance was rewarded, and his people were saved. Since then, the river Ganga has been a symbol of purity and life, revered by millions. |
