The 20th edition of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon is set to welcome an unprecedented crowd this Sunday, with more than 40,500 participants expected to hit the starting line at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Organisers from Procam International announced that the event will feature six race categories, offering opportunities to runners of all ages and abilities. According to the registration data, 14,271 runners will take part in the half marathon, 9,811 will run the Open 10K, and 14,865 are expected for the Great Delhi Run. The event will also see enthusiastic participation from senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Race director Hugh Jones described the run as “a legacy event that continues to inspire participants to chase their personal bests and set new records.” Over the years, the Delhi Half Marathon has become one of the most prominent fixtures on India’s running calendar.
Robust Medical and Logistics Support
Metro Hospital will deploy 400 medical staff, 12 ambulances, 10 medical stations, and mobile medical units to ensure the safety of participants. All personnel are trained in CPR and emergency response. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will provide free rides for registered runners starting at 3:15 a.m. on race day to facilitate smooth travel to the venue.
The marathon route will include over 20 hydration and energy stations, mist zones, cooling points, and cheering zones to support runners throughout the race.
Sustainability at the Core
The 2025 edition aims to be a zero-waste event. Organisers are working with NDMC, Hasiru Dala Innovations, and Chintan for efficient waste management. Unused food and water will be redistributed, and more than 200,000 sq ft of branding material will be upcycled into shelters and mats for the homeless.
“We were carbon footprint negative last year, and we aim to achieve that again this year,” said NDMC medical officer Dr. Ankita Rai.
Strong Institutional Backing
The event is supported by NDMC, Delhi Police, Delhi Tourism, the Indian Army, and the Government of NCT of Delhi. The Chief Minister is serving as the event’s chief patron, and the government has extended official sponsorship to ensure smooth execution.
With elite athletes, amateurs, senior citizens, and differently-abled participants coming together, the 20th Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon is poised to be a landmark celebration of fitness, community, and environmental responsibility. |
