India and Oman on Saturday reviewed cooperation in trade, critical minerals and regional developments during talks between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said the discussions with Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi focused on trade, critical minerals and regional developments, reflecting the trust and comfort of the India–Oman strategic partnership..
Albusaidi arrived in New Delhi earlier in the day to attend the India-Arab Foreign Ministers' Meeting, which India is hosting on Saturday. The meeting is being co-chaired by India and the United Arab Emirates.
Welcoming the Omani foreign minister, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X that the visit would further strengthen the multifaceted strategic partnership between India and Oman.
Foreign ministers from Arab League member states, along with the Arab League Secretary General, are participating in the meeting, which is being held after a gap of 10 years. The first India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting took place in Bahrain in 2016.
At the inaugural meeting, the two sides identified five priority areas of cooperation — economy, energy, education, media and culture. The second meeting is expected to build on these areas and expand collaboration.
The India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is the highest institutional mechanism guiding India’s engagement with the Arab world. The partnership was formalised in 2002 through a memorandum of understanding between India and the League of Arab States, to which India is an observer. |
