Four police personnel posted at the Pakribarawan excise police station in Bihar’s Nawada district were arrested on Saturday in connection with an alleged extortion case, officials said.

Those arrested were identified as assistant sub-inspectors Sujit Kumar and Dilip Kumar, along with Home Guard jawans Ravinder Kumar and Gulshan Kumar.

They are accused of demanding ₹1.5 lakh for the release of a man from Jamui district and his Creta car after he was detained on Thursday for allegedly transporting liquor.

The arrests followed a First Information Report (FIR) lodged by Pintu Kumar Yadav. In his complaint, he said his elder brother, Santosh Kumar, left home at about 1pm but did not return by the evening.

At around 7.30pm, Yadav received a call from Santosh, who allegedly told him he had been abducted and that ₹5 lakh was being demanded for his release. Yadav later handed over ₹1.5 lakh at the excise police station, police said.
