As the race for the deputy chief minister post in Bihar heats up, the possibility of a woman being selected for the post has gained strength. Speculations are that, given the massive support the NDA received from women voters in the Delhi Assembly Elections, the party might consider selecting a woman MLA for the post.
According to central BJP sources, the party wants to capitalise on the women's card this time. The strategy is to appeal to both upper castes and backward/extremely backward castes with a single face.
Two names are already doing the rounds: Jamui MLA Shreyasi Singh and Aurai MLA Rama Nishad.

Shreyasi Singh, a shooter-turned-politician who won the Jamui seat for the BJP. Shreyasi retained the Jamui seat by a margin of 54,498 votes. Her name is gaining traction as she represents both the upper caste and women and is also a firebrand leader of the BJP in the state. Shreyasi is also the daughter of late Union Minister Digvijay Singh and former MP Putul Kumari.
Another contender for the post is Rama Nishad, the MLA for Aurai. She is the wife of former MP Ajay Nishad and set a record, winning with the highest number of votes in Bihar. Nishad also maintained the record of winning with the highest number of votes in the 11 assembly constituencies of the district in the 2020 assembly elections. Making Rama Nishad the Deputy Chief Minister could send a significant message to the extremely backward class. |
