The 2016 Indian Super League season showcased some remarkable performances from local Indian products and talents. The league featured eight teams competing in a round-robin format followed by playoffs.  
 
Chennaiyin FC emerged as the champions after defeating Kerala Blasters 3-2 in a thrilling final match. The season saw outstanding performances from Indian players like Jeje Lalpekhlua, who scored crucial goals for Chennaiyin FC throughout the tournament.  
 
Other notable Indian products included Sandesh Jhingan\“s solid defensive displays for Kerala Blasters and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu\“s impressive goalkeeping performances. The league provided an excellent platform for local talent development and exposure to international playing standards.  
 
The scoring system followed standard football rules with 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. The top four teams qualified for the playoffs based on their accumulated points throughout the season. |
