Oppo has previewed ColorOS 16, the latest version of its mobile operating system, ahead of its global rollout with the upcoming Find X9 Series. The announcement was made on 15 October 2025, with India serving as the first market to receive the update. ColorOS 16 introduces enhancements across system fluidity, design, editing tools, and cross-platform connectivity.
The update builds on ColorOS 15’s Parallel Animation with a new Seamless Animation framework. This aims to create a consistent visual experience across app launches, gestures, and widget interactions. Native apps now respond from the point of touch and return smoothly when dismissed. Two new technologies underpin this system-wide fluidity: the Luminous Rendering Engine, which renders visual components in parallel, and the Trinity Engine, which manages chip-level performance and resource allocation for demanding tasks such as gaming and multitasking.
Oppo has also introduced “Project Breeze,” a performance optimisation initiative for entry-level devices. This ensures smoother operation on hardware with limited specifications, extending the benefits of ColorOS 16 beyond flagship models.
The interface has been redesigned with a focus on natural light and shadow, offering a cleaner layout. Users can personalise their devices with Motion Photos or videos as wallpapers, and AI-generated font suggestions. A new full-screen Always-On Display (AOD) allows users to view their lock screen wallpaper alongside key information, transitioning smoothly to the full lock screen with a tap.
The Flux Home Screen feature enables dynamic resizing of folders and app icons, with the layout adapting automatically. This is supported by the Luminous Rendering Engine to maintain visual consistency.
ColorOS 16 expands its AI editing capabilities with the addition of AI Portrait Glow, which enhances low-light portraits by adjusting skin tones and lighting. It joins existing tools such as AI Eraser, AI Unblur, and AI Reflection Remover. The built-in video editor now includes Master Cut, offering manual controls for trimming, speed, music, cropping, text, filters, and image adjustments.
Connectivity features have been extended with O+ Connect now supporting both Mac and Windows PCs. Users can manage files or remotely control their computer from their phone. Screen Mirroring allows up to five apps to be cast and controlled via mouse and keyboard, useful for meetings or presentations.
ColorOS 16 will debut with the Find X9 Series and is expected to roll out globally in the coming weeks. Oppo stated that the update reflects its broader strategy to deliver a more intelligent and integrated mobile experience across devices and platforms.
