Odisha has engaged more than 5,000 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in its clean energy ecosystem as it seeks to accelerate renewable adoption and attract global investment, the state’s MSME minister said at the Global Cleantech Expo-Odisha.
“Odisha is actively supporting MSMEs through subsidies, credit guarantees, and policy incentives to accelerate clean energy adoption. We want every home to be solarised, noting that nearly 5,000 MSMEs are already engaged in the clean energy ecosystem across the state,” MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallik said at the event.
The expo, described by organisers as the first large-scale cleantech exhibition of its kind in Eastern India, drew participation from more than 200 companies representing over 20 countries, including Australia, Germany, France and the United States. The event aimed to position Odisha as an emerging hub for clean energy innovation, technology transfer and capital flows.
Debi Prasad Dash, Principal Advisor of the Global Cleantech Expo-Odisha and Executive Director of NetZero Energy Transition Association (NETRA), said the event had placed Eastern India on the global clean energy map.
“With the event’s resounding success, Eastern India has firmly entered the global clean energy map. This platform is catalysing investment, partnerships, and technology transfer for a sustainable future,” Dash said.
India’s broader Net Zero target for 2070 and policy support under the Startup India initiative are driving growth in the cleantech sector, with MSMEs scaling up green solutions in areas such as solar energy, battery storage, electric mobility and green hydrogen.
At the expo, companies including Saatvik Green Energy, Navitas Solar, Gautam Solar and Luminous Power Technologies showcased technologies spanning solar modules, advanced battery systems and energy storage solutions.
Amlan Kanti Das, Senior Vice President-Operations and R&D at Luminous Power Technologies, said Odisha’s mineral base gave it a strategic advantage in energy storage manufacturing.
“Odisha contributes 40 to 59 per cent of India’s mineral volume, making it a strategic hub for Luminous to drive global leadership in energy storage. With 30 acres of land in Odisha and access to critical minerals, we are accelerating innovation in advanced energy storage solutions,” Das said.
The state has set an ambitious 10 GW renewable energy target and is expanding into battery energy storage systems (BESS), electric vehicles, green hydrogen, tidal energy, AGRO PV and floating solar projects to modernise its grid infrastructure.
Mallik also linked the clean energy push to environmental stewardship under the state’s “5J” vision, Jal, Jungle, Jami, Jiba Jantu and Jana Sadharan, aimed at balancing economic development with ecological protection.
With Eastern India states such as Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand integrated into the broader market outreach, Odisha is positioning its MSME base and mineral wealth as twin engines to anchor long-term cleantech investment and manufacturing growth.
