Delhi-NCR witnesses hail storm: IMD issues orange alert for these cities

Heavy rain and hailstorm hit part of Noidaand some parts of Delhi on Tuesday eveningbringing down the temperature. The Delhi-NCR region – which also comprises Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad – is on orange alert.
The hailstorm was reported in Noida around 5 pm IST.
Parts of Haryana, Punjab also witnessed a hailstorm

In Haryana’s Fatehabad, residents woke up to “snow-like” conditions as a severe hailstorm blanketed the region in a thick layer of ice.
Similar reports emerged from Patiala and surrounding districts in Punjab, where the intensity of the hail has raised immediate concerns among the farming community regarding damage to standing winter crops like wheat and mustard, Republic reported.

The sudden shift in weather, has been driven by an intense Western Disturbance, has triggered a high alert across the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining states.
Rain brings relief to poor AQI in Delhi-NCR

The rain is expected to bring relief from the deteriorating air quality in the Delhi-NCR which fell back into the ‘very poor’ category on Tuesday morning, with the CPCB’s Sameer app recording an AQI reading of 310.


This comes just days after a brief improvement following nearly a day-long spell of rain earlier this week.

‘EU ki ole ole’

Netizens took to X to react to the sudden change in weather in the city. One user wrote “Hailstorm in Noida EU ke ole ole,” referring to the landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed between India and the European Union (EU) earlier in the day.
Another user wrote that they were “cooked” due to the adverse weather conditions.

What is the weather prediction for the coming days in Delhi-NCR?

According to latest forecasts, temperatures will start relatively cool this week with day-time highs around 18–20 °C and night-time lows near 8–11 °C from January 27 through February 2, with mostly dry conditions returning after the initial rainy spell, NDTV reported.
