A member of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has reportedly moved the Madras High Court demanding action against the Karur district administration and senior officials, blaming them for the tragic stampede in Karur. The petitioner accused the government officials of 'dereliction of duty'.
G. Kartheeban, a lawyer and reportedly a member of TVK, has sought action against high-ranking officials in Karur, including the district collector, Superintendent of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police and police inspector, over the tragic incident on September 27. The petitioner accused the officials of dereliction of duty and blamed them for the tragedy. The petitioner argued in his plea that the tragedy could have been averted had the officials performed their duty.
The officers, who were legally and statutorily bound to ensure proper crowd management, public safety, and preventive measures, failed in discharging their official duties, Live Law reported, quoting the plea.
The petitioner demanded disciplinary action against the officials and claimed the officials will escape accountability if action isn't initiated against them.

The fresh plea come amidst the ongoing probe by the High Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) over the incident. As many as 41 people died in the tragic stampede during actor and TVK leader Vijay's campaign rally in Karur.
Recently, while hearing pleas related to the Karur stampede, the High Court came down heavily on actor Vijay and the party, and observed they lacked remorse. The Court also questioned the state government for not initiating action against Vijay over road accidents en route Vijay's rally. |
