The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday activated a demo registration link (click here) to help Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (Main) 2026 candidates get familiarised with the examination process.
This follows a September 30 notice from the NTA—in which it requested JEE (Main) 2026 candidates to update their Aadhaar card details—coming to the fore after reports of a rule change.

Reports say that from the 2026 examination sessions onwards, eligible aspirants would no longer be able to choose their preferred exam centres in the application form.
This is because exam centres for the two JEE sessions—January and April—will now reportedly be allocated using the candidate's Aadhaar card address as a reference.
THE WEEK could not independently verify the reports.
This would be a huge shift from the existing system that allowed candidates to choose 3-4 preferred centres, and is likely being done to curb cheating and increase efficiency and transparency.
To address possible concerns about examination centre issues or eligibility, the NTA has urged aspirants to update their Aadhaar card details, in addition to UDID details (for those with disabilities) and category certificate (where applicable), in order to "avoid any discrepancies, grievances, or rejection at a later stage".
NTA's September 30 notice says that the Aadhaar card should be updated with the aspirant's "correct name, date of birth (as per Class 10th certificate), latest photograph, address, and father's name".
The possible new rule would first affect JEE (Main) exams, after which it would be extended to other nationwide exams as well, such as NEET-UG and CUET-UG. |
