Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Election 2026 Result Date and Time: The results of the Maharashtra civic elections – conducted on January 15 for 29 municipal corporations – will be out on Friday (January 16).

The elections covered 2,869 seats across 893 wards, making it one of the largest municipal election exercises in the state in recent years. A total of 41.08% voter turnout has been recorded until 3:30 pm. (Will update with final turnout count)

Nearly 3.50 crore voters were eligible to cast their votes in these elections, which saw 15,931 candidates across urban bodies. Mumbai, the state’s financial capital, alone had 1,700 candidates in the contest, whereas Pune had 1,666 candidates.

The elections were closely watched, as municipal corporations play a major role in providing essential services such as water supply, sanitation, roads, urban planning, and waste management, which directly affect daily life in cities.

The prominent civic bodies voted in this round included Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Ulhasnagar, Panvel, Kalyan-Dombivali, Vasai-Virar, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Nashik, Malegaon, Pune, Solapur, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kolhapur, Sangli, Amravati, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Latur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, among others.

As per election authorities, the counting of votes for all municipal corporations is scheduled for January 16 and will commence from (time). Counting was set to begin in the morning at designated centres in each city. The counting process was to be conducted under the supervision of the Returning Officers and election observers. Results were expected to be announced progressively as counting advanced through the day.

To facilitate voter participation in large numbers, the State Election Commission had declared January 15 a public holiday in areas where polling was held. The closures covered government and semi-government offices, banks, and public sector undertakings.

Key alliances in focus


The Bharatiya Janata Party contested the BMC elections in alliance with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. On the other hand, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which was part of Mahayuti in the state and the Centre, had joined hands with the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) in key municipal corporations such as Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune.

Other players included Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and several independent candidates.
