A Delhi-New York Air India flight was grounded on Thursday after one of its engines sucked in a baggage container at the Delhiairport. The incident occurred when the Airbus A350 was taxiing in dense fog at the airport, the airline said, confirming the damage.
Flight AI101 had returned to Delhi airport after the Iranian airspace closure impacted its route. The engine damage occurred after the aircraft landed and none of the passengers or crew were harmed. Images of the damaged right engine of the aircraft have also surfaced online.
Aircraft grounded for thorough investigation
The aircraft was safely positioned at designated parking and been grounded for a thorough investigation and necessary repairs, Air India said.
This may cause potential disruptions on select A350 routes, the airline has warned, assuring that it is working on alternative travel arrangements and refunds for affected passengers.
“Air India regrets the inconvenience caused to our passengers and is proactively assisting them with alternative travel arrangements and refunds, as preferred. Safety remains the paramount priority for Air India, and the airline is committed to providing support during this time,” it added.

Another Air India flight scare
In a separate incident, another Air India flight bound for Singapore was forced to return to Delhi on Thursday after the aircraft developed a technical issue mid air, as per reports.
AI 2380, operated with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was carrying around 190 passengers and had been airborne for nearly an hour when a fire warning related to the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) was received, prompting the crew to take a precautionary decision to turn back.

An Air India spokesperson confirmed the incident and stated that the operating crew decided to carry out a precautionary return shortly after take-off due to a suspected technical issue.
“The aircraft landed safely in Delhi. Our ground teams at Delhi extended all necessary assistance to passengers and the flight departed for Singapore on an alternative aircraft,” the spokesperson said in a statement. |
