Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday alleged that the West Bengal government-led by CM Mamata Banerjee is not helping with land allotment for fencing across the Bangladesh border, allowing infiltration. Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Shah said people of West Bengal are anxious because of continuous infiltration.
“We will not only identify infiltrators, but we’ll also drive them out,” he said. The Union Minister added the Centre has not been able to complete fencing of the India-Bangladesh border because the West Bengal government was not providing the required land.

Shah claimed that BJP will form its government in the state next year, he said the party will ensure there is no infiltration from the eastern borders and the state is revitalised.

“BJP will form a government in West Bengal with a two-thirds majority,” he claimed.

TMC established politics of fear: Shah

Amit Shah went on to target Trinamool Congress (TMC), and said the party has “surpassed the Left in establishing the politics of fear and violence”.
&#8220eople of Bengal have resolved to replace fear, corruption and misgovernance with good governance,” he said.

He said people should ask why infiltration is happening only in West Bengal and not other states. “Can the CM answer why infiltration has stopped at the borders of Tripura, Assam, Rajasthan, Punjab, Kashmir and Gujarat? It is because, in West Bengal, infiltration occurs under your watch to bring about demographic change and strengthen your votes…” he added.

The next election will be fought on the issues of stopping infiltration and removing infiltrators, it is an issue of national security, Shah said.
Backing Shah’s statement, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Home Minister’s statement is “the factual position”.
“While Assam and Tripura are fighting against infiltration, Bengal is opening its doors to the infiltrators. We must take strong action on the West Bengal-Bangladesh border. The Home Minister has proposed a national grid; we welcome it,” he said.
The state of West Bengal will go to polls in the first half of the next year.
TMC predicts less than 50 seats for BJP

Reacting strongly to Amit Shah’s statement, Bengal Minister Bratya Basu claimed that the BJP would not even cross the 50-seat mark in the polls.

“Shah will keep coming and going like a tourist. Such visits will serve no purpose,” Basu said, adding that “the BJP will not even cross the 50-mark in the assembly polls and suffer a humiliating defeat”.

TMC spokesperson Jay Prakash Majumdar also dismissed Shah’s claim that the BJP does not engage in temple-based polarising politics.
“Everyone knows the BJP campaigned on temple-masjid politics in both the 2019 and 2024 elections. This brand of politics will again be rejected by the people of Bengal,” Majumdar said, quoted ANI.
