Jeff Bezos is taking on a hands on leadership role once again, this time at Project Prometheus, a fast growing artificial intelligence company that is attempting to re engineer how physical industries use advanced computing. The venture has named Bezos and scientist entrepreneur Vik Bajaj as Co CEOs, placing both at the centre of one of the most ambitious AI bets of the year.
Prometheus has attracted about 6.2 billion dollars in funding and is building AI systems designed for complex engineering environments rather than the standard software driven models that dominate the market. People familiar with the company indicate that its early projects touch aerospace, high precision manufacturing and next generation computing hardware. The team already includes specialists hired from some of the world’s leading AI labs.
Bajaj, known for his work in biotechnology and at Google’s X lab, is expected to lead the scientific push while Bezos focuses on scaling the company’s vision and global presence. His return to a CEO title marks a rare move back to day to day operations since stepping away from Amazon in 2021.
