Chief Minister Nitish Kumar paid tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on Friday as Bihar prepared to count votes polled during the recent elections. The post has since sparked buzz on social media — with some wondering if the Janata Dal (United) chief would remain with the NDA after the results came. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also issued a similar tribute post via X on Friday morning to mark the birth anniversary of his predecessor.
“On the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister, Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Ji, I pay my humble respects to him,” read the short post from Kumar.

The post has since generated a flurry of comments questioning the motivations of Nitish Kumar. Multiple comments on X wondered if the JDU chief — well known for his defections — was planning to change allegiances after the election results were announced.
“Kahin chacha paltane ke mood mein to nahin hai,” jibed one X user.
“This is the sign bro. RJD is coming,” claimed another.
“Am I reading too much into this?” wondered a third.

Nitish to continue as Chief Minister?
Exit polls have overwhelmingly predicted a victory for ruling coalition — with some projecting more than 150 seats for the NDA. The JD(U) also predicted its victory on Friday morning, insisting that only a few hours were left before the “government of good governance” returned.
“Just a few hours to wait, the government of good governance is returning once again (Bus kuch ghanto ka intejaar, fir se aa rahi hai sushan ki sarkar).” the party wrote on social media.
The BJP-led alliance has also touted Kumar as its leader.
“Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) has been very clear. He has already said that we do not have a vacancy. Why should we name the person (who is the sitting CM)? The name is Nitish Kumar. Where is the confusion? We don’t have any confusion. Our (CM) face is Nitish Kumar,” Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan told ANI during a recent interview.
