Goldman Sachs has removed access to artificial intelligence (AI) models developed by Anthropic for its bankers in Hong Kong, following a review of contractual terms, as per a Reuters report.
Employees of the US bank in the Chinese territory had previously been able to use Anthropic’s Claude chatbot through an internal AI platform, but access was withdrawn in recent weeks, the source said.
Goldman took a strict interpretation of its agreement with Anthropic after consulting the company, concluding that staff based in Hong Kong should not be permitted to use Anthropic products, the report said.
Other widely used AI models, including Google Gemini and ChatGPT, remain available to Goldman employees on the internal platform, according to the source, who declined to be named as they were not authorised to speak to the media.
AI tools developed by US companies, such as ChatGPT and Claude, are prohibited in mainland China, but Hong Kong has largely remained outside those restrictions, with access typically governed by usage policies set by the companies themselves.
