Ukraine has approached Turkey to host a potential meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said, as Kyiv attempts to revive stalled peace negotiations.
Speaking to reporters, Sybiha said that Ukraine has also sounded out other capitals and remains open to any venue except Belarus or Russia. He reiterated that Kyiv is willing to participate in talks at any neutral location that can facilitate progress toward ending the war, now stretching beyond four years.
Belarus, a close ally of Russia, had allowed Moscow to use its territory during the 2022 full-scale invasion, making it an unacceptable venue for Ukraine. Sybiha did not disclose Turkey’s response but emphasised that Kyiv would consider any alternative host outside Moscow and Minsk.
The Kremlin has earlier indicated its willingness to host talks in Moscow, an option Zelenskyy has firmly rejected.
Separately, Sybiha confirmed that he has exchanged written communication with Anita Orban, who is set to assume office as Hungary’s foreign minister following the recent election victory. |
