Germany on Wednesday unveiled a new military strategy, retaining its target of 260,000 active troops even as senior defence officials push for a sharper increase amid rising concerns over Russia.
Addressing reporters in Berlin, Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said the broader force structure aims for 460,000 personnel, including 200,000 reservists—a benchmark set in 2025, while describing the plan as a “living document”.
Pistorius emphasised that advances in automation and artificial intelligence will shape future force requirements, including troop numbers and skillsets. He reiterated Berlin’s ambition to build Europe’s strongest conventional military. |
