Seven people were killed in a deadly muti-vehicle chain collision on the outskirts of Bengaluru early Friday, after an SUV reportedly rammed into a two-wheeler and then crashed into a canter truck on a national highway. The crash took place near M.Sathyavara village in Hoksote taluk of Bengaluru Rural district, resulting in a pile-up that left the car crushed and the victims dead at the spot, as said by police. Emergency teams and local police rushed to the site to clear the wreckage and sent the bodies for post-mortem. Investigators have started examining the sequence of the events and possible reasons behind the accident.
How did the accident happen?
An XUV car heading towards Devananhali first hit a motorcycle moving ahead of it, after which the driver allegedly lost control and the vehicle crashed into a canter truck, triggering a deadly pile up, as per a report by ANI. Another car was also caught up in the aftermath, making it a chain collision in which two cars, a canter and a motorcycle were involved.
Police stated that six people in the XUV and the motorcycle rider died on the spot, The impact of the accident was so severe that the XUV was badly destroyed. The deceased are suspected to be residents of Kothanur in Bengaluru, though identification is still under process.

What was the possible cause of the accident?
IGP (Central) Labhu Ram, who visited the site, said: “Seven persons were killed in a series of road accident. We have cleared the vehicle and shifted the bodies to the hospital. Among the dead, the bodies of six persons travelling on a bike and an XUV have been identified… The efforts are on to identify another deceased person, as quoted by IANS. He also said the investigation was examining whether the car driver was under the influence. “The investigation is on to find out whether the car driver was driving the vehicle in an inebriated state. We can’t say anything in this regard,” he stated.
After the crash, the truck and the bike reportedly crossed the median and fell onto the opposite side, while the mangled XUV came to a stop about 500 metres away.
Initial findings indicate overspeeding may have been a key factor, according to police officials cited by IANS.
Meanwhile, local residents raised concerns about the design and construction quality of the highway stretch, alleging poor planning between Sadappanahalli and Kamalipura Bridge and saying objections were flagged during construction. |
