Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Friday announced the release of Rs 5,000 to women beneficiaries under the Kalaignar Women’s Rights Scheme, reiterating his government’s focus on direct financial support for women across the state.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Stalin emphasised that the payments, covering February, March, and April, include Rs 3,000 as the standard monthly allocation and an additional Rs 2,000 as a “summer special” bonus. He stated that the funds have already been credited to 1.31 crore women under the scheme.
“This promise given by this Stalin to Tamil Nadu women is the rights allocation. No matter who imposes obstacles, I will not back down from it. Using elections as an excuse, they are trying to stall the rights allocation for three months. What was promised was by our #DravidianModel government! As advance for February, March, April months: ₹3 thousand + as summer special allocation: ₹2 thousand!,” he tweeted.

Welfare Push Ahead of Poll Season

Stalin described the scheme as a hallmark of the Dravidian Model government, asserting that attempts to delay the disbursement by three months, allegedly citing elections as an excuse, would not deter his administration. “No matter who imposes obstacles, I will not back down from it,” he wrote, highlighting his commitment to the programme.

The Kalaignar Women’s Rights Scheme provides monthly financial assistance to eligible women heads of households, positioning itself as a rights-based welfare measure rather than a one-time benefit. The latest transfer, the government said, reflects continuity rather than a fresh announcement.
Promise of ‘Dravidian Model 2.0’

The DMK leader also promised that in the proposed Dravidian Model 2.0, the monthly rights allocation would increase from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000, reinforcing his focus on expanding financial support to women. He concluded the post with a message of solidarity and electoral confidence, urging women to support the party in the upcoming assembly elections.

The announcement comes months before the Tamil Nadu assembly polls, with the ruling DMK expected to foreground welfare initiatives — especially those targeting women — as a central part of its campaign narrative. The disbursal is likely to sharpen political debate in the state, with opposition parties closely watching the timing and framing of the payout.
