A six-year-old boy was killed and five others injured after a car allegedly driven by a Class 12 student ran over pedestrians in Lucknow on Thursday evening. The accident took place near the Hanuman temple in the Banthara area.

Policehave seized the car, a Swift Dzire, and taken the teenage driver into custody. The vehicle was reportedly borrowed from a friend.
According to officials, the student was returning home with a classmate after attending a function at their school. During the drive, he allegedly lost control of the car. The vehicle first hit an autorickshaw and then ploughed into people walking along the roadside.
Child Dies During Treatment
The deceased has been identified as Dikshant Patel. He was walking with his mother and grandmother when the car struck them. The child suffered a serious head injury and later died during treatment.
The injured include Dikshant’s mother Sadhna (35), grandmother Meena Devi (60), Arman (12) and Awadh Bihari (42). They are currently undergoing treatment.
Police said a case has been registered at Banthara police station under various sections, including rash and negligent driving.
“The driver has claimed that the accident occurred after one of the car’s tyres burst. The vehicle belongs to his friend. We have detained the driver and seized the car,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police, Lucknow, Rajnish Verma.
Driver Tried to Flee After Crash
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had attended a school function earlier in the day and had taken his friend’s car to travel there. After the event, he reportedly dropped off three classmates before the accident occurred while he was on his way to drop the fourth.
Police said that after the crash, the student tried to escape. He allegedly drove away from the spot, later abandoned the vehicle and fled with a friend. He was subsequently tracked down and detained.
