Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra continue to be couple goals. The two tied the knot in 2018, but their relationship was often placed under public scrutiny, with criticism centred on their intercultural marriage, age gap and different backgrounds.
Chopra has now spoken candidly about how hurtful those reactions were and how the couple chose to rely on each other instead of public opinion.
In a recent interview with Variety, Chopra addressed the gossip and speculation around their marriage.
“We’re eight years in. If people want to keep waiting for it to implode, that’s their choice,” she said. “I stopped thinking about it. I don’t know what it was about us that rubbed people the wrong way. I think it was the intercultural nature of it; different countries, different religions, the age gap. It was very hurtful. Instead of looking outside, we just looked at each other and said, ‘It doesn’t matter.’ Now it’s like water off a duck’s back.”
Reflecting on how quickly their relationship moved, Chopra said they got married within six months of meeting.
“When I first married him, I didn’t even know if this part of him was real. I thought, this is crazy, this has to be put on. But Nick has this absolute sincerity. It inspires me every day in a profession where you constantly have to adapt and perform,” she said.
She also praised Jonas’ upbringing and values, calling his sincerity a rare and disarming quality.
“He’s constantly sincere — in every conversation, every moment. He started working very young, and his parents are wonderful, grounded people. You can see where it comes from,” she added.
On the work front, Priyanka is set to make her Telugu cinema debut with Varanasi, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, alongside Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is scheduled for release on April 7, 2027.
She also has the second season of Citadel in the pipeline and will next be seen in The Bluff opposite Karl Urban.
