Bihar Assembly Election 2025 Date Live Updates: As the election nears in Bihar, with the election date to be out soon, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a three-hour review meeting at the party office in Bihar. The meeting was attended by all 18 members, including the election in-charge and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The meeting focused on discussing the 60 “sitting seats” that the party has in the state, with a focus on women and youth. Today, the committee will discuss the remaining seats and the lost seats on which the BJP contested.
“The performance of our current MLAs and potential candidates who want to contest from there was also discussed. There was a discussion on giving special priority to women and youth,” Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal told ANI.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) is assessing the preparations being done in Bihar for the upcoming assembly elections. A team led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar reached Patna yesterday to review poll preparedness. The delegation includes Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. A crucial press conference after the review meeting was held on Sunday where the ECI updated the media about election-related changes and SIR exercise. The dates of the elections are likely to be announced sometime next week.
The poll panel officials meeting with various political parties comes days after the ECI released the final voter roll post Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar.

Central Observers deployed in Bihar
The ECI is likely to announce the dates for the Bihar assembly elections anytime next week. In the run up to the same, the top poll body recently deployed the officials as central observers in Bihar. According to the press release, 425 officers, including 287 IAS officers, 58 IPS officers, and 80 officers from IRS/IRAS/ICAS and other services, attended the meeting. The briefing meeting was held at IIIDEM, New Delhi, reported PTI.
CEC Gyanesh Kumar addressed the Observers, and called them the beacons of democracy. As the Commission’s eyes and ears, the Central Observers were told to familiarise themselves with all the election laws, rules, and guidelines, provide direct field inputs and ensure their strict and impartial compliance.
These officials have been asked to remain fully accessible to political parties, candidates, and voters for the redressal of their grievances, the press release stated. The Observers were also instructed to visit polling stations and ensure the implementation of the recent initiatives taken by the Commission for the convenience of the voters.

Bihar elections candidates’ list
No political party has come up with the list of candidates in Bihar. One of the big reasons is the seat-sharing talks that is still underway and both – ruling NDA and the opposition’s Mahagathbandhanare working on a formula to keep the allies satisfied as the results of the election may throw a surprise.
Meanwhile, Jan Suraaj Party said it will release first list of candidates on October 9. Its National President, Uday Singh, stated that the party will release its first list of candidates for at least 100 assembly constituencies on October 9.
“We will release our first list on the 9th (October). Jan Suraaj had announced long ago that we would announce our candidates before any other party. From our perspective, we’ve already delayed… On the 9th, we will announce the names of candidates for at least 100 assembly constituencies. And we will do this so that our candidates have as much time as possible to prepare in their constituencies. After all, we are a new party, so no matter how much Jan Suraaj’s name is known, we will have to work harder…,” Singh told ANI.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar spoke on SC verdict on Aadhaar, "...According to the Supreme Court's orders and under the Aadhaar Act, Aadhaar cannot be considered proof of date of birth, proof of residence, or proof of citizenship."
"The Election Commission requested Aadhaar card within the enumeration form itself. Providing your Aadhaar number is not mandatory under the Aadhaar Act, nor under Section 26 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. It is optional. It depends on the Aadhaar holder," he said.
The CEC note that even under the Aadhaar Act, the Aadhaar card is neither proof of residence nor proof of citizenship.
"If anyone got Aadhaar card after 2023 or downloaded it after 2023, the Aadhaar card itself, under several orders of the Supreme Court, states that the Aadhaar card is not proof of date of birth...The Supreme Court did say, and we are following that order, that Aadhaar cards should be accepted. We were also accepting Aadhaar cards in the enumeration form and still are... However, the Supreme Court also stated in its order that the Aadhaar card will not be proof of citizenship....the Supreme Court has also stated that it is not proof of citizenship. Other documents may be required for eligibility," he said.
