Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai expressed concern over the misrepresentation of judges' oral observations on social media. Chief Justice Gavai recalled how he restricted a fellow judge from making certain observations in open court while hearing a plea.
Expressing concern over the misrepresentation of judges' comments on social media, the chief justice observed "we do not know what will be reported on social media". The chief justice's comments come a day after a senior lawyer attempted to attack him inside the courtroom.

Hearing a plea on Tuesday, Chief Justice Gavai, in a lighter vein, said, "My learned brother Justice K. Vinod Chandran had something to comment, I stopped him from expressing it, when we were hearing the Dheeraj Mor case. Otherwise, on this social media, we do not know what will be reported. I requested my learned brother to restrict it only to my ears."
The bench comprising the CJI and Justice Chandran was hearing a plea filed by the All India Judges Association on issues related to service conditions, pay scales, and career progression of judicial officers.

A senior lawyer, Rakesh Kishore, attempted to throw a shoe at the CJI while he was hearing pleas in the Supreme Court on Monday. However, security personnel present in the court immediately took custody of Kishore.
Kishore was allegedly upset over Justice Gavai's comments while hearing a matter concerning the restoration of a Vishnu idol in Khajuraho. Police later released Kishore due to a lack of proper complaint. Police also returned his shoes. The CJI termed the plea as "publicity interest litigation".
