A Haryana Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Y Puran Kumar, A 2001 batch IPS officer, reportedly died by suicide at Sector 1, Chandigarh. The incident is said to have occurred sometime around 1:20 pm Tuesday. 
Chandigarh senior superintendent of police Kanwardeep Kaur confirmed the death, saying, “Information regarding a reported suicide was received from House No. 116, Sector 11, Chandigarh, around 1.30 pm today. The deceased has been identified as Puran Kumar, IPS (2001 batch), Haryana cadre. The CFSL team is at the spot, and an investigation is underway.”

Senior Haryana police officer Y Puran Kumar was found dead with a gunshot wound at his Chandigarh home on Tuesday, officials said. Police suspect that he committed suicide.

The body was taken to GMSH Hospital in Sector 16. 
Chandigarh police have recovered the weapon that was used, and forensic teams are investigating the site. 
The reason behind the suicide is unknown, and it's unclear if Kumar left a suicide note. 
Kumar’s wife, Amneet P Kumar, who is a senior Haryana IAS Officer, was not at home during the incident. She had travelled to Japan as part of a delegation led by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. She is expected to reach Chandigarh on Wednesday. 
Puran Kumar’s body was discovered by his daughter in the basement, which was soundproof.

Kumar was recently transferred to Rohtak’s Sunaria jail on September 29. 
The facility is known for housing Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving for cases of sexual offences.
