Mamata Banerjee fights back amid North Bengal flood crisis and BJP attacks

As the war of words between West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the North Bengal flood continues, the CM is fiercely defending her turf by taking action and visiting flood-affected areas.
Banerjee, on Tuesday, also countered the BJP’s allegations of MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Sankar Ghosh being attacked in North Bengal on Monday while visiting flood-affected areas. “I don’t support violence. I have faced so much violence. But during floods and riots, people get angry and we face protests. I have also faced protests and was chased when I visited riot-affected areas,” said Banerjee.
The CM pointed out that bridges also collapse in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
She hit out at the BJP while not targeting PM Modi directly. “They are abusing me. They abused me yesterday, but I am happy. I conveyed the truth. PM had tweeted the day before. I have the screenshot that said people died due to the bridge collapse. It is not his fault. It is the fault of those who are giving him inputs. But he has to listen to an elected government, not his party.” 
She appealed to the party at the Centre to avoid politicising a natural calamity. Meanwhile, the West Bengal Chief Minister has already offered a Rs. 5 lakh compensation for the families of victims as the death toll in the floods crossed 30. 
Many people are found missing while search operations are underway by the National Disaster Response Force(NDRF) and Indian Army soldiers.
