Ahmed Mohiuddin Abdul Qadir Jilani, an accused in a terror conspiracy case, was attacked inside Gujarat’s Sabarmati Central Jail by three fellow inmates on Tuesday morning. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Inspector K.Y. Vyas said Jilani, a native of Telangana, suffered an injury to his eye and was shifted to the Civic Hospital for further treatment.
"On the morning of 18 November, Jilani was attacked by a fellow inmate, resulting in injury to his eye. He was given medical attention and subsequently sent to Civil Hospital. The primary investigation revealed that Anil Kumar, Shivam Sharma, and one more individual were involved in the attack. Further investigation is ongoing," Vyas told ANI.
A senior jail officer told Times of India that Sharma, who is lodged in jail for a theft offence, attacked Jilani to flaunt his “patriotism”.
Jilani, along with two others, was arrested by the Gujarat ATS last week for allegedly plotting terror attacks using ricin, a highly lethal toxin.
Reports said the trio were arrested after months of surveillance and intelligence inputs. |
