Freja eID is a digital identification system widely used in Sweden for secure online authentication. When it comes to the Indian market, there are several local digital identity products that serve similar purposes.
The most prominent Indian digital identity product is Aadhaar, which is a 12-digit unique identity number issued to all Indian residents based on their biometric and demographic data. Aadhaar serves as a proof of identity and address throughout India.
Another important digital identity initiative in India is DigiLocker, which is a platform for issuance and verification of documents and certificates in digital format, eliminating the need for physical documents.
For online authentication, India has developed the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) which allows users to link multiple bank accounts and make instant payments using a single mobile application.
The Indian government has also launched the e-Sign service which allows citizens to digitally sign documents using Aadhaar authentication, similar to how Freja eID is used for digital signatures in Sweden. |
