The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that weather activity over parts of South India is expected to intensify from October 24 onwards as a low-pressure system begins to develop over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal. The met department has notified that this developing weather pattern could lead to widespread rainfall, thunderstorms and localised heavy spells across several coastal and interior regions in the days ahead.
“The well-marked low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu coast moved nearly northwestwards across north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts and lay over the north coastal Tamil Nadu and neighbourhood at 1730 hrs IST of today, the Oct. 22, 2025,” read an IMD update on X (formerly Twitter). It added, “It is likely to move west-northwestwards across north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh and weaken into a low-pressure area during the next 24 hours.”
