A Delhi University (DU) professor was allegedly slapped and assaulted by Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) joint secretary Deepika Jha and other members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College on Thursday, according to some media reports.
A video of the incident, widely circulated online, appears to show a teacher being attacked by a group of students inside the college premises in the presence of the police. The confrontation reportedly occurred around 4:20 pm and was captured on CCTV.
In a statement, the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) and the Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) condemned the incident, describing it as “an attack on the dignity of educators.” The teachers’ bodies claimed that the DUSU president and joint secretary entered the college with over 50 students and demanded the resignation of the disciplinary committee convener.
The alleged assault has sparked strong reactions across the university, with faculty members demanding accountability and disciplinary action against those involved. Meanwhile, ABVP members have claimed that the confrontation was provoked by the professor’s conduct. |
