In honour of World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital organised the ‘Spirit of Pink’ Walkathon, a vibrant community initiative aimed at raising awareness around early detection and regular screening of breast cancer. The walkathon saw the participation of over 350 women, including breast cancer survivors and caregivers, all donning traditional pink turbans—a symbol of strength, solidarity, and hope.
Usha Soman, octogenarian fitness icon and mother of model-athlete Milind Soman, graced the occasion as the chief guest. She led the ceremonial flag-off and joined participants on the 5-kilometre walk through Juhu, Vile Parle (East), inspiring the crowd with their powerful presence and messages of wellness.
Held at the crack of dawn, the event started with a high-energy musical warm-up, followed by motivational talks from cancer specialists and testimonials from cancer survivors and caregivers. These stories highlighted the critical importance of early diagnosis and timely medical intervention.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr Garvit Chitkara, Associate Director – Breast Oncology, Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, said, “Events like today’s walk turn awareness into action. Most breast cancers are treatable—often with breast-conserving options—if detected early. We urge women to remain vigilant, undergo regular screening, and consult their doctors about any concerning changes. Early evaluation can save lives.”
October, globally marked as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is a time to spotlight the disease that remains the most common cancer among women in India. Nanavati Max’s initiative aimed to demystify breast cancer, break stigma, and encourage women to take charge of their health through preventive action. Nanavati Max Hospital also illuminated the structure and the Asiatic Society of Mumbai Town Hall in Fort, in Pink colour to create awareness about the dreaded disease.
The event concluded with a collective pledge to keep the conversation around breast health active throughout the year and to extend unwavering support to those currently undergoing treatment—reinforcing Nanavati Max’s ongoing commitment to compassionate, patient-centric oncology care and impactful community outreach.
