Ola Electric, India’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer, has entered the Battery Energy Storage Systems (Bess) segment with the launch of Ola Shakti, its first residential Bess solution. The company said this marks its transition beyond electric mobility into the broader clean energy ecosystem.
The company estimates India’s Bess market to be worth Rs 1 lakh crore and expects it to grow to over Rs 3 lakh crore by 2030. With Ola Shakti, it anticipates its annual Gigafactory consumption for the segment to reach 5 GWh within a few years surpassing its automotive battery demand.
Built using Ola’s indigenous 4680 Bharat Cells, Ola Shakti is fully designed, engineered, and manufactured in India. The system is available in four configurations 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh priced at Rs 29,999, Rs 55,999, Rs 1,19,999, and Rs 1,59,999 respectively for the first 10,000 units. Reservations are open at Rs 999, with deliveries set to begin on Makar Sankranti 2026.
The launch leverages Ola Electric’s 4680 cell technology, Gigafactory production capacity, and pan-India distribution network, enabling rapid scaling without additional capital or R&D expenditure. The modular system supports easy installation, scalability, and multi-directional stacking for diverse residential and small business needs.
According to the company, Ola Shakti delivers 98 per cent efficiency and features such as 0ms changeover time, IP67-rated weatherproof batteries, and wide input voltage support for appliance safety. The product also offers smart energy management capabilities including real-time monitoring, intelligent backup scheduling, remote diagnostics, and OTA software updates.
With Ola Shakti, Ola Electric aims to extend its technology and manufacturing expertise to energy storage, positioning itself as a key player in India’s emerging clean energy infrastructure. |
