SAEL Industries has commissioned 600 MW AC of solar power capacity in Andhra Pradesh’s Rayalaseema region, marking one of the first large-scale renewable energy projects to be completed under the state’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024.
The projects, inaugurated in Kurnool district by Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh in the presence of Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, were developed at an investment of around Rs 3,000 crore and completed within 11 months.
The capacity comprises two 300 MW AC solar projects, developed by SAEL subsidiaries across nearly 2,400 acres in Kurnool district. The projects will supply electricity to the national grid under 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
First Major Project Under Andhra’s Clean Energy Policy
The commissioning is among the first major renewable energy developments under Andhra Pradesh’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024, which aims to attract large-scale investments into renewable power, storage and manufacturing.
In a statement issued on the occasion, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the project reflects the state’s efforts to position itself as a clean energy investment hub and highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s target of attracting Rs 10 lakh crore in green energy investments over the coming years.
Solar Modules Sourced From Domestic Manufacturing
According to the company, the projects are expected to offset nearly 11 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually and deploy over 12 lakh TOPCon bifacial solar modules, most of which were assembled at SAEL’s manufacturing facilities in Punjab and Rajasthan.
SAEL said the projects were completed within an accelerated timeline, citing state-level support and project facilitation. The company operates across utility-scale solar, agri waste-to-energy, battery energy storage systems and solar manufacturing, with an operational and pipeline renewable energy portfolio of over 8.2 GWp across India. It is also developing an integrated 5 GW solar cell and 5 GW module manufacturing facility in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
