US Weighs ‘Short, Powerful’ Strikes On Iran Amid Deadlock In Talks

The US Central Command is reportedly preparing a plan for a “short and powerful” wave of strikes on Iran, according to media reports, signalling a potential escalation amid stalled negotiations between the two sides.
The proposed military option is being considered as Washington looks to break the current diplomatic deadlock. However, there has been no official confirmation from the US administration on whether such a plan will be executed.
Even as military preparations are reportedly underway, diplomatic engagement continues. India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said he held discussions with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, with both sides agreeing to remain in close contact over the evolving situation.
In Washington, the issue has also triggered political debate. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth criticised Congressman John Garamendi for remarks questioning the administration’s strategy, stating that such comments could undermine military operations.
Meanwhile, Iran has reiterated its preference for diplomacy. Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said that war would not resolve the crisis and emphasised that negotiations remain the only viable path forward. He added that Tehran has put forward proposals aimed at resolving the conflict through dialogue on what it described as equal terms.
The developments highlight a complex situation where military posturing and diplomatic outreach are unfolding simultaneously, with regional and global stakeholders closely monitoring the next steps.
