India’s LPG refill bookings have shifted almost entirely to digital platforms, with around 98 per cent of bookings now being made online, even as geopolitical tensions continue to impact global fuel supply chains.
The government said deliveries have also become more trackable, with about 94 per cent authenticated through delivery authentication codes (DAC) to improve transparency and prevent diversion of subsidised cylinders.
Supply prioritisation amid geopolitical pressure
Despite supply constraints linked to the global situation, oil marketing companies are prioritising domestic LPG distribution, delivering over 50 lakh cylinders daily.
Officials noted that digital adoption has risen sharply, from about 71 per cent earlier to nearly 80 per cent in mid-March, before reaching the current 98 per cent level. Similarly, DAC-based deliveries increased from 53 per cent pre-crisis to 72 per cent in March and now 94 per cent.
There have been no reported shortages at distributor levels, with over 51.8 lakh cylinders delivered on April 25. While refill bookings had earlier peaked at nearly 89 lakh on March 13, they have since stabilised at around 45–46 lakh bookings daily.
To manage supply, authorities had initially curtailed commercial LPG supply, later restoring it in phases to about 70 per cent of pre-crisis levels.
