Former Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha launched the Telangana Rashtra Sena (TRS) on Saturday (April 25) in Hyderabad, boldly resurrecting the original name of her father K Chandrashekar Rao’s party seven months after her dramatic expulsion.
The event, infused with Telangana pride, positions her new outfit as a regional force to champion the state’s ‘unfinished agenda,’ drawing floral tributes to 1969 agitation martyrs and signaling a fierce return to politics.
Kavitha kicked off the TRS unveiling at Amaraveerula Stupam in Gun Park, honouring those who sacrificed for statehood. She declared the party a vehicle for Telangana’s aspirations, echoing her father’s original Telangana Rashtra Samithi- renamed BRS in 2022 for national ambitions.
“We need a regional party for the unfulfilled agenda,” she asserted, framing TRS as the true heir to the movement after BRS’s alleged soul-selling shift.
Kavitha’s fiery TRS rally cry: ‘Your time is done, our time is now’
K Kavitha unleashed this caption on X to herald her new TRS, vowing unyielding fight for the state’s dreams, “We refuse to back down, come what may; It is time the people of Telangana have their say. We will not let our aspirations decay; Be reduced to ashes if you dare come in our way. Your Time is Done, Our Time is Now.”
Remember The Name: Telangana Rashtra Sena
We refuse to back down, come what may;
It is time the people of Telangana have their say.
We will not let our aspirations decay;
Be reduced to ashes if you dare come in our way.

Why Kavitha left BRS: Expulsion, family betrayal and ideological rift
Kavitha’s BRS exit stemmed from a bitter September 2025 suspension for ‘anti-party activities’ after criticising leaders T Harish Rao and J Santosh Rao. She accused them of colluding with CM Revanth Reddy to ‘destroy our family and party,’ resigning as MLC in protest.

Claiming expulsion rather than voluntary departure- “The BRS…changed their name, work and the very soul of the party”- she formed Telangana Jagruthi NGO as a bridge to this relaunch, insisting people, not family, are her true base after 20 years in the agitation.
Accusations fly in ugly family feud
Kavitha didn’t mince words on the BRS rift, “We haven’t left them…We have been expelled.” She lambasted the party’s drift from regional roots, saying distraction from core issues spells doom.
Her barbs at Harish Rao and Santosh Rao escalated tensions, with her vowing unwavering commitment, “I am a daughter of Telangana and the fragrance of Telangana‘s soil will drive us.” This familial showdown threatens BRS’s cohesion ahead of state polls.

Reviving TRS pits Kavitha directly against her father’s BRS and Congress, potentially splintering the regional vote. Her NGO groundwork and agitator credentials position her as a fresh Telangana nationalist voice, but reclaiming the TRS acronym risks legal battles or voter confusion.
With Hyderabad abuzz, her new party launch reignites statehood-era fervour, challenging Revanth Reddy’s dominance and testing whether blood ties or ideology prevails in Telangana’s cutthroat politics or not.
