India on Monday tore into Pakistan during a debate at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), accusing Islamabad of "misdirecting the world with hyperbole".
India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, made the scathing remark in response to Pakistan’s allegation that Kashmiri women had been enduring “sexual violence” for decades.
Harish termed Pakistan a country that “bombs its own people” and cited the systematic genocide and mass rape by its army in 1971.
"Every year, we are unfortunately fated to listen to the delusional tirade of Pakistan against my country, especially on Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian territory they covet. Our pioneering record on the Women, Peace and Security agenda is unblemished and unscathed," he said.

The Indian official noted that a country that bombs its own people and conducts systematic genocide can only attempt to distract the world with “misdirection and hyperbole”.
“This is a country that conducted Operation Searchlight in 1971 and sanctioned a systematic campaign of genocidal mass rape of 400,000 women citizens by its own army,” he said, adding that the world sees through Pakistan’s propaganda.
Earlier, Counsellor Saima Saleem, who is part of the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations, alleged that the Kashmiri women, deployed as a weapon of war, have endured sexual violence for decades.
"To exclude Kashmiri women from the Women, Peace and Security agenda erases its legitimacy and undermines its universality,” she had said.
The Indian officer, in his address, asserted that New Delhi remains unwavering in its commitment to the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
He said India is ready to share its expertise with partner countries, particularly those in the global south, fostering collective solutions to shared challenges. |
