Five to six people including two children are feared to be trapped after a massive fire broke out at a furniture shop in the Nampally region of Hyderabad on Saturday evening.
While teh cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, Hyderabadpolice have presently deployed several fire trucks and tenders for relief and rescue measures in the area.
Latest update from Hyderabad police

Following the outbreak of the fire, teams from Hyderabad’s policedepartment were stationed at the site to coordinate multiple rescue operations. The fire originated in the cellar of a furniture godown near the Kamath Hotel in Nampally.
As per the latest situation assessment by the Hyderabad police commissioner VC Sajjanar, five to six people including two children are believed to be trapped in Bacha Furniture Shop.

“We’ve received information that five to six people, including two children are trapped inside the cellar including and we’re making efforts to bring them out using robots,” Commissioner Sajjanar said in his latest statement to Express reporters at the site.

“Hyderabad police along with disaster response teams are engaged in rescue operations following a fire accident at a furniture shop at Nampally Traffic movement in the area has been severely disrupted and visitors have been asked to postpone their visit to [the] Numaish exhibition,” Hyderabad police posted on X.

Numaish is an annual exhibition fete which is arranged at Nampally.
NDRF joins rescue ops

As the fire grew out of the cellar of the furniture godown and spread across the wider Nampally region disrupting everyday life and traffic, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was called in to support the state police in rescue ops.
As per the police’s statement, eight fire engines have been pressed into action. The first fire call was received at 5 pm, after which the fire tenders were dispatched to the spot. Following the fire’s buildup many political figures Asaduddin Owasi have commented on the matter.
Issues surrounding the legality of the furniture godown’s construction have also surfaced. However, these rumors were recently shut down by Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner R V Karnan who told The Indian Express that the building had approval from the civic body and had also obtained a fire no-objection certificate (NOC).
