Speed or IShowSpeed, who was crowned theStreamer of the Year at The Streamer Awards 2025 just days ago, has again going viral. This time, his social media fame, or infamy as some would deem it, followed after he reacted to soccer legend Lionel Messi’s GOAT India Tour 2025during a livestream.
According to the video now circulating online, the content creator was seen viewing a clip of a stadium, where a massive gathering of fans were pictured throwing bottles on the pitch. Speed misconstrued the visuals as Indian people booing the Argentinian legend out of the stadium.

Social media users were quick to rip the Streamer of the Year a new one for spreading misinformation. Although ruckus and chaos did erupt at the Indian stadium, the situation didn’t quite unfold the way Speed thought it did.

Speed reacts to Lionel Messi’s India tour

“Wait Messi really in India, bruh?” IShowSpeed exclaimed loudly in the video. A bewildered Speed sat with his mouth agape as he continued watching on the clip. He then raised a big question, “Bro, y’all Messifans in India? I thought y’all were Ronaldo fans.”

As the camera panned to the audience stands, Speed was even more shocked to the massive turnout hoping to catch a glimpse of Messi at the stadium. Countless people were spotted wearing the iconic Argentinian Messi jerseys. “Look at all these Messi fans! You don’t see one Ronaldo jersey,” he continued.
Moments later the visuals jumped to the time when chaotic scenes unfolded at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium. Angry fans ended up ripping up seats and throwing items towards the pitch after Messi’s brief 20-minute appearance. But Speed, who didn’t happen to know the series of events, misunderstood the situation, thinking people were hurling things at Messi instead.

Caught off-guard, Speed couldn’t but question, “They booing Messi? They booing Messi in India?” As even more severe scenes of vandalism unfolded at the stadium, he asked again, “They booed Messi in India? What?! Oh my god! What the hell?”
The popular internet personality couldn’t help but wonder, “Chat, they don’t like Messi in India?”

A Messi fan on X commented under a video of Speed’s reaction: “Messi wasn’t booed out of the stadium, they booed the organizers cos everything was a mess not.”
Another user said, “misinterpretation… Messi wasn’t booed out. Rather people were angry with the organizers for mismanagement. People couldn’t even catch a glimpse of Messi since he was surrounded by politicians and businessmen for their own photoshoot.”

Some others slammed Speed for “spreading lies,” or “misinformation online for engagement.” Yet another called the streamer a “clown,” and dragged him for “spreading fake narrative.”
What really happened during Messi’s India visit?

As part of his GOAT Tour 2025 in India, the football legend was slated to head to Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi over a three-day period.
The highly anticipated tour in question kicked off on December 13, with Kolkata as the first stop. While there, he virtually appeared for the unveiling of a 70-foot statue of himself at Sreebhumi Sporting Club in Lake Town. The Ballon d’Or winner even met up with Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan on Saturday.
He was then scheduled to come down to the Salt Lake Stadium, which hosted the footballer in 2011 during his country’s 1-0 win over Venezuela, as per the official Olympics website. This time, he came accompanied by his teammates Luiz Suarez and Rodrigo de Paul.

Considering India is home to the highest population in the world, a massive crowd came together to meet Messi at the stadium. Thousands came in by availing their exorbitant tickets. However, the Argentine icon was escorted out after about just 20 minutes. Ultimately, a certain section at the stadium lost all cool and started hurling chairs and bottles onto the pitch, with many even vandalising the venue altogether as people failed to properly catch a sight of the star.
On noticing that Messi was being escorted out of the stadium, loud boos echoed through the venue. Fans who had paid the “hefty” price of thousands of rupees to watch the player accused the organisers of mismanagement, complaining about how they completely missed out on seeing the star as other high-profile figures blocked their view.
“Only leaders and actors were surrounding Messi… Why did they call us then? We have got a ticket for 12,000 rupees, but we were not even able to see his face,” an eventgoer told ANI.

“I paid Rs 5,000 for the ticket and came with my son to watch Messi, not politicians,” another complained to PTI. “The police and military personnel were taking selfies, and the management is to blame.”
The event’s organiser and promoter, Satadru Dutta, was ultimately detained at the Kolkata airport while he was en route to Hyderabad.
“We have persuaded the organiser; he has given in writing that the tickets which have been sold will be refunded. The situation is now under control. We have detained the main organiser and ensured that this mismanagement does not go unpunished and that the fans are adequately compensated,” said West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar, as per Sportstar.
