The National Investigation Agency (NIA) team, on Wednesday, took gangster Anmol Bishnoi, wanted in multiple high-profile cases, including the murder of a former Maharashtra minister, into custody after he was deported from the US.
According to media reports, he was taken to the Patiala House court by a team of the NIA.
Anmol, the brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, is wanted in the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique, firing at Bollywood star Salman Khan's residence and the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, among other cases.
According to investigators, Anmol acted as a handler in many criminal operations for his brother, including issuing threats, coordinating shooters and targetted killings.
Meanwhile, even as he has been deported to India, his family members have made a request to the authorities.
Ramesh Bishnoi, cousin of Anmol, while acknowledging that the "law will take its course and that his family members are law-abiding people," urged the authorities to ensure Anmol's safety.
"...today our main concern is that if he (Anmol Bishnoi) is being brought to India, the Indian government should ensure his safety, this will be our demand... We have always respected the law and will continue to do so."
Ramesh claimed that Anmol is being punished for being Bishnoi's younger brother, and added that the investigation will reveal everything.
Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister, was shot dead on the night of October 12, 2024. As many as 26 people allegedly connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang have been arrested in connection with the murder.
