In a major breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another key suspect linked to the Red Fort terror attack that killed at least 13 people and injured several others last Monday. The agency has taken into custody Jasir Bilal Wani, also known as Danish, an alleged “active co-conspirator” in the attack. Wani, a resident of Qazigund in Kashmir’s Anantnag district, was arrested in Srinagar by the NIA.
His arrest follows the arrest of Amir Rashid Ali, who has been remanded to 10 days of NIA custody and is believed to have worked with suicide bomber Dr Umar Nabi in carrying out the terror attack.

NIA arrests ‘active co-conspirator’

“Continuing with its probe in the Red Fort area car bomb blast case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another key associate of the terrorist involved in the blast,” NIA said in a press release dated November 17.

Wani allegedly provided technical support for carrying out terror attacks by modifying drones and attempting to make rockets ahead of the deadly car bomb blast, the agency said in a statement.

It added, “Jasir Bilal Wani @ Danish, also a Kashmiri resident, was arrested from Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir by an NIA team that was in the Valley in the case RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI. NIA investigations have revealed that Jasir had allegedly provided technical support for carrying out terror attacks by modifying drones and attempting to make rockets ahead of the deadly car bomb blast, which killed 10 people and left 32 people injured.”
NIA further said that it continues to explore various angles to unravel the conspiracy behind the terror attack that has shaken the entire country. “Several teams of the anti-terror agency are pursuing multiple leads, and are conducting searches across states to identify every person involved in the terror attack,” the statement further added.

According to a PTI report, Wani, a political science graduate, claimed to have been heavily influenced by Umar over several months, who allegedly tried to persuade him to carry out a suicide attack. He told investigators that he first met members of the so-called “doctor module” in October last year at a mosque in Kulgam, after which he was taken to a rented accommodation at Al-Falah University in Faridabad.
Wani, who was earlier detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police, revealed that while some members of the group wanted him to serve as an overground worker (OGW) for the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed, Umar repeatedly pressured him to become a suicide bomber. The plot eventually fell apart in April when Wani withdrew, citing financial hardship and his belief that taking one’s own life was against Islamic teachings.
