The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter roll in the state of Assam, weeks after it announced the schedule of the exercise in 12 states and Union Territories (UTs). The house-to-house verification will begin from Nov 22, and the final roll will be published on Feb 10. 2026.
Unlike SIR in other states, here, voters are not required to fill the enumeration form.

According to instructions issued by the poll panel for the chief electoral officer of Assam, January 1, 2026, will be the qualifying date for the state to carry out the Special Revision. Officials said the SIR stands somewhere between the annual special summary revision and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

ECI announces SIR schedule for Assam (X)How is Assam SIR different from other states?

In Bihar, and the other 12 states and UTs where the SIR was announced last month, the electors have to fill in the enumeration forms. Also, they have to mention details, if they were present during the last SIR from 2002-2005/06. If not, then they must submit details of their parents or grand parents.

If nothing is available, then they have to submit documents from 11 as mentioned in ECI’s list. However, in case of Assa, the process is different.
“It is in a way an upgrade of special summary revision … instead of enumeration forms, booth-level officers will verify electors on a pre-filled register,” a senior official told PTI.
Full schedule of Assam SIR (X)According to the schedule, the door-to-door verification will take place from November 22 to December 20. And the integrated draft electoral roll will be published on December 27 and the final roll on February 10 next year.
Last month, the EC ordered SIR for Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Puducherry, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep. Among these, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and West Bengal will go to polls in 2026. Election are also due in Assam next year.

During the announcement of SIR in other states, CECGyanesh Kumarhad said, “A special order will be issued by the Election Commission to hold SIR in Assam.”
“Under the Citizenship Act, there are separate provisions for citizenship in Assam. Under the supervision of the Supreme Court, the exercise of checking citizenship is about to be completed. The June 24 SIR order was for the entire country. Under such circumstances, this would not have applied to Assam,” he said.
