Kabaddi is a traditional Indian sport that combines elements of wrestling and tag. The game is played between two teams of seven players each, on a rectangular court divided into two halves.
The objective of kabaddi is for a single player, called the raider, to run into the opposing team\“s half, tag as many defenders as possible, and return to their own half without being tackled. The raider must hold their breath during the entire raid and continuously chant kabaddi, kabaddi to prove they are not inhaling.
Defenders try to stop the raider by tackling them before they can return to their own side. If the raider is successfully tackled, the defending team scores a point. If the raider tags defenders and returns safely, their team scores points equal to the number of players tagged.
Kabaddi requires strength, speed, strategy, and breath control. It is one of India\“s most popular indigenous sports and has gained international recognition through competitions like the Pro Kabaddi League. |
