The first phase of Biharassembly elections concluded today, with voters across 121 of the 243 constituencies casting their ballots, deciding the fate of hundreds of candidates. Reacting to the polls, PM Modi posted on X, “In the first phase of voting in the Bihar Assembly elections, the NDA has gained a massive lead. Along with this, its wave is visible everywhere in the second phase as well.”
“Amid this enthusiasm of the public and the masses, tomorrow afternoon around 1:45 PM, I will have the good fortune to communicate with my family members in Aurangabad, and around 3:30 PM in Bhabhua,” he added.

The voter turnout in the 2025 assembly elections remains the highest since the 2000 assembly elections, according to Election Commission data. The voting percentage in 2000 was 62.57 per cent.

A total of 3.75 crore voters were eligible to exercise their franchise in this phase, to decide the electoral fate of 1,314 candidates,” Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vinod Singh Gunjiyal said. Of the 1,314 candidates contesting the assembly polls, 1192 were men, while 122 were women.

Nearly 47,263 ballot units were used in the first phase of assembly polls, followed by 45,341 control units and VVPAT machines each. Voting took place across 45,341 polling stations, of which 36,733 were in rural areas.
Stakes remain high for both the ruling NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc in the first phase of the assembly elections, with several key leaders, including RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, and several ministers, in the fray.

Gunjiyal said that barring a few incidents of “minor scuffles” in Lakhisarai and Saran, polling passed off peacefully. “A total of 143 complaints were received and were immediately resolved,” he added.
As per the Bihar elections CEO, polling was boycotted in certain booths in Buxar, Fatuha and Suryagarha. The remaining 122 seats of the 243-member assembly will vote on November 11, while the counting will take place on November 14 |
