Kabaddi is a traditional Indian sport that originated in ancient Tamil Nadu. The word \“kabaddi\“ comes from the Tamil language, meaning \“holding hands\“. This indigenous game has been played in rural India for centuries and is now recognized as the national sport of Bangladesh and the state game of several Indian states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
The sport requires no equipment and is played on a rectangular court. Two teams of seven players each compete by sending a \“raider\“ into the opponent\“s half to tag as many defenders as possible while chanting \“kabaddi\“ repeatedly without taking a breath. The raider must return to their half without being tackled by the defenders. Points are scored by tagging opponents or stopping raiders.
Kabaddi has gained international recognition and is now played in Asian Games and World Cups.
