The Greek Super League, officially known as the Super League Greece, is the top professional football division in Greece. The league format has undergone several changes over the years, but the current structure consists of 14 teams competing in a round-robin tournament.
Each team plays every other team twice, once at home and once away, for a total of 26 matches per team. After these matches, the league splits into two groups: the championship group (top 6 teams) and the relegation group (bottom 8 teams). In the championship group, teams play each other once more to determine the champion and European qualification spots. In the relegation group, teams play each other once more to determine relegation.
The team finishing first wins the Greek championship and qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, while the second and third-placed teams qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League. The bottom two teams are directly relegated to the Super League Greece 2, with the third-from-bottom team entering a relegation playoff. |
