New Delhi: A fresh autopsy of singer Zubeen Garg will be conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into his sudden death. The procedure is scheduled for 7 AM at Guwahati Medical College, under the supervision of a team from AIIMS Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference, Assam CM confirmed that the autopsy is being conducted in response to public demand and to ensure transparency in the investigation.
Zubeen Garg's body will be taken to Guwahati Medical College for autopsy in the morning, and around 9 AM, they will bring him back for the funeral procession. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju will attend the cremation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's representative.
Meanwhile, the state government has acquired 10 bighas of land in Kamarkuchi to build a memorial in honour of the singer. Assam Minister and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Working President Keshab Mahanta confirmed the plan.

Who Was Zubeen Garg?

Zubeen Garg, who died on September 19, was one of Assam's most celebrated cultural icons. He gained national recognition with the hit track Ya Ali from the film Gangster. He was also a prominent figure in Assamese cinema as a singer, actor, and director, with hits such as Kanchanjunga, Dinabandhu, and Mon Jai.
How Did Zubeen Die?

Initial reports suggested that Zubeen Garg died while scuba diving in Singapore.
However, further details provided by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma suggest a different sequence of events. According to Assam CM, Zubeen died while swimming in the sea without a life jacket. "Zubeen died while swimming without a life jacket," he said.
The Chief Minister also referred to a video showing Zubeen jumping into the sea from a yacht while wearing a life jacket. "After the 1.26 mark in the video, Zubeen Garg can be seen returning to the yacht. Moments later, Zubeen was found floating in the sea, unresponsive, and was later pronounced dead at Singapore General Hospital.
The organisers of the North East India Festival stated that they were unaware of the yacht visit prior to the incident.
